A588 Grade K is a weathering structural steel designed for infrastructure and engineering projects operating in atmospheric exposure conditions. Through the development of a stable protective surface layer, the steel reduces corrosion progression and extends service life without requiring frequent maintenance. It is commonly selected for bridges, building frameworks, utility facilities, and transportation structures where durability and lifecycle cost reduction are important factors.

Chemical Composition

A588 Grade K incorporates copper, chromium, nickel, and other alloying elements to achieve enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance. Carbon content is controlled to maintain weldability, while manganese and silicon support mechanical strength and structural consistency. The alloy design enables long‑term performance in outdoor environments.

Mechanical Properties

A588 Grade K provides a minimum yield strength of 345 MPa and a tensile strength range of 485–620 MPa. The steel combines structural strength with excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance, making it suitable for welded and fabricated components exposed to varying environmental conditions.
