S420NL steel grade introduction

S420NL is a fine-grained structural steel, which is a high-strength steel plate under the European standard EN 10025. S420NL steel plate has higher comprehensive mechanical properties in normalizing or normalizing and tempering state. When the thickness of S420NL steel plate is greater than 70mm, the fixed rolling guarantee performance will be normalized for delivery.

Chemical composition of S420NL steel plate:
C≤0.2, Si≤0.6, Mn: 1-1.7, P≤0.025, S≤0.02, Ni≤0.8, Cr≤0.3, Mo≤0.1, Cu≤0.55, Nb≤0.05, V≤0.2, Ti≤0.05, Als≥0.02, N≤0.025.

Analysis of the difference between S420N and S420NL steel plates:
S420 steel plates should be classified as alloy special steels. S420 steel plates are supplied at the following levels specified during inquiry and ordering: when the temperature is not lower than -20℃, the minimum impact energy is specified, denoted by N, which is S420N. When the temperature is not lower than -50℃, the minimum impact energy is specified, which is represented by NL, that is, S420NL.

S420NL steel plate is mainly used for large ships, bridges, power station equipment, medium and high pressure boilers, high pressure vessels, hoisting machinery, mining machinery and other large welded structural parts.
